BUTTERWORTH, June 17 — The Penang police detained 30 individuals and served 134 arrest warrants to traffic offenders during a 16-hour operation, codenamed “Op Warta” in the state which ended at 5pm today.

Penang Public Order and Traffic Department head Supt Ibrahim Abu Bakar said the 30 individuals, aged between 20 and 50, were detained during checks on 647 vehicles at several road blocks mounted since yesterday.

They would be charged in court and ordered to pay their summon arrears, he told reporters after the operation at the Sungai Nyior toll plaza here today.

He said Penang recorded 14,540 road offenders who failed to pay their summonses for various traffic offences.

For public convenience, he said, the counters for payment of traffic summons would be opened until 8pm. — Bernama
