KUALA LUMPUR, June 15 — A Malay group demanded today that the 22-year-old Chinese man who allegedly created a furore through Facebook posts and insulting Islam to be taken to court as a lesson to others.

Pertubuhan Martabat Jalinan Muhibbah Malaysia (MJMM) president Abdul Rani Kulup Abdullah said the man, whose name on Facebook is Chow Jack, posted seditious remarks which also threatened the relationship between the different races in Malaysia.

“Chow Jack has insulted Malay kings, especially the Perak Sultan, Malay leaders, the prime minister, Prophet Mohammad, insulted the Islam religion, insulted Muslims around the world who will be celebrating the holy month of Ramadhan, by saying things that shouldn’t have been said,” he told reporters after lodging a police report at the Dang Wangi police headquarters.

A check on Chow Jack’s Facebook page showed numerous posts with profanities, mostly insulting Malays and Umno.

Abdul Rani also questioned the motives of the people who insult the Malays and their religion.

“Do they want Malays to rise up to show the same kind of attitude, fight like it was May 13?”

“We don’t want  that... The Malay race is noble one, no matter who comes to our country, we won’t betray them, in fact we respect them, and we have never insulted their religion,” he said.

He urged the police, Islamic authorities, the multimedia watchdog and the Home Ministry to take immediate action and bring Chow to the courts before “Malays go on a rampage or do something against the law”.

He urged the representatives of the various races to “control” members of their ethnicity to avoid untoward incidents.

“Don’t incite or bribe or order any individual to say things insulting to any race,” he added.MJMM president Abdul Rani Kulup Abdullah (centre) posing for photographs outside the Dang Wangi police headquarters. — Picture by Melissa Chi
