KUALA LUMPUR, June 15 — Firm action will be taken against any military personnel found to be involved in crime and militant groups.

Deputy Defence Minister Datuk Abdul Rahim Bakri said the government would not compromise with any member of the security forces involved in crimes which could threaten national security.

“The military institution is the bastion of the national defence and security. I urge all officers and personnel to boost their professionalism to the highest level,” he told reporters after opening the 49th general meeting of Koperasi Tentera at Sungai Buloh Camp, near here, today.

He said this when asked to comment on the detention of a Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) personnel in Sandakan, Sabah two days ago on suspicion of being involved in militant activities.

“The case is still under investigation by police. The ministry through RMN will take further action if the police find out if he had committed any offence,” he said.

He urged the Malaysian Armed Forces to enhance monitoring on the officers and personnel in the three services to prevent their involvement in crime and militant groups. — Bernama
