KOTA BARU, June 3 — Kelantan police have seized drugs worth RM7.2 million until May this year compared with RM2.9 million in the same period last year.
Kelantan Police chief Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman said the seizure involved only methamphetamine and did not include other drugs such as syabu.
“The case is definitely serious. Most urine tests on detained criminals were found to be positive,” he said after the handing over of the Kelantan Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department head’s post here, today.
During the ceremony, Kelantan Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department deputy chief Supt Mit A/L Emong was made its acting head to replace Supt Amran Ramli. Amran is the new Pahang Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department chief.
He said Kelantan police had also detained 397 drug traffickers compared to 243 last year.
Meanwhile, Jalaluddin said the police would put up sign boards to boost awareness against using methamphetamine statewide soon.
He said the public must help the police in eradicating abuse of methamphetamine among youths.
“Some as young as 15 are involved, as such we must cooperate with all quarters especially parents, non-government organisations, state governments and others in overcoming the problem,” he added. — Bernama
