JOHOR BAHARU, May 25 — The police have crippled a gang-robbery syndicate which has been active in Kluang with the arrest of seven men, aged between 17 and 29, in Seremban.
Johor police chief Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said the suspects were arrested during Ops Cantas in Seremban last Wednesday, during which the police also seized three vehicles, a Toyota Hiace, a Perodua Kancil, and a Toyota Hilux.
Police also seized two machetes, gloves, seven handphones, four vehicle registration number plates, ski-mask and a hammer, he told reporters here today.
He said the suspects were believed responsible for seven robbery cases reported in Kluang and a vehicle theft reported in Masai, Seri Alam.
They are in remand until May 28 to facilitate investigation, he added.
In another development, Mohd Mokhtar said three men and a woman, believed to members of a motorcycle theft syndicate, were detained at Taman Rumas in Kluang last Thursday.
He said police also detained another two men, also believed to be members of the syndicate, at Felda Layang-Layang and at Taman Seri Bayu, Simpang Renggam.
The suspects, aged between 19 and 30, are in remand until tomorrow to facilitate investigation.
Following their arrest, police also detained six people for allegedly buying stolen motorcycles. — Bernama
