NUSAJAYA, June 20 – Fifty-six Johor assemblymen took their oath of office in conjunction with the commencement of the first term of the 13th State Assembly sitting at the Sultan Ismail Building in Kota Iskandar here today.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin led the assemblymen in taking their oath before the newly-appointed Speaker Datuk Mohamad Aziz.
Mohamad’s appointment was proposed by Mohamed Khaled and seconded by Mahkota assemblyman Md Jais Sarday, who is also State Education, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Committee chairman.
Mohamad, 72, was the assemblyman for Parit Yaani from 1986 to 1999 and Sri Gading Member of Parliament since 1999 until he lost the seat in the last polls.
He had also served as Johor Social Development and Community Welfare Committee chairman from 1990 to 1995 and Umno Deputy Permanent Speaker since 2008.
In his speech, Mohamad said the appointment was an honour and he promised to supervise the State Assembly sitting to the best of his ability.
Barisan Nasional formed the Johor government with a two-thirds majority by winning 38 of the 56 state seats in the May 5 general election.
Thirteen other state seats were won by DAP, four by PAS and one by PKR. – Bernama
