SEMPORNA Oct 26 — His role was to protect, but he seems to have failed even that.

A Chinese tourist was allegedly undressed by a security guard while she was staying at a resort in Semporna, Malaysia on Sept 19, HK01 reported on Oct 15.

The tourist, surnamed Huang (transliteration), had travelled alone and stayed at the resort.

While she was sleeping, a man broke into her room at around 3am on Sept 19, restraining and undressing her.

In an attempt to break free from his grasp, the 25-year-old struggled to fight back.

Unsuccessful, Huang then tricked the man into taking a shower, during which she fled from her room.

While escaping, however, she got into a brief scuffle with the alleged perpetrator who pulled her hair and dragged her to the ground, HK01 reported.

She sought refuge in bushes up a slope in the resort, where she was bitten by insects. The suspect did not pursue her, presumably fearing security cameras in the resort, Guang Ming Daily reported.

Huang stayed hidden until the morning when she was discovered by other resort staff.

Jailed for two years

Police then arrested the alleged suspect, Amir Kahal, at around 8pm that evening.

Kahal, purportedly a foreign national believed to have illegally entered Malaysia without valid documents, was subsequently sentenced to two years’ jail for trespassing.

His case for assault or use of criminal force to a person with intent to outrage modesty is still under probe, The Star reported.

Semporna Magistrate Don Stiwin Malanjum warned during sentencing earlier this month that strict action will be taken against employers who hire illegal immigrants.

He added that similar action may also be taken against individuals who allow undocumented immigrants to stay, gather or reside on their premises.

In images shared to her social media, Huang showed bruises and scrapes on her legs, as well as lesions and bites on her back.

She has also claimed to suffer from a lack of sleep due to the fear of someone constantly lurking around her keeping her up at night, Beijing News reported. — AsiaOne
