KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 24 — Ikea Malaysia has officially received halal certification from the Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (Jakim) for all its restaurants, cafés, and bistros nationwide, formalising nearly three decades of longstanding halal practices.
The certification recognises Ikea Malaysia’s commitment to halal standards across sourcing, kitchen operations, and staff training, giving customers added confidence when dining at any outlet.
“Malaysians’ love for our food has always inspired us, and that is something we hold close,” said country retail director of Ikea Malaysia, Malcolm Pruys, in a statement today.
“This certification reflects our respect for trust, culture, and community.”
He added, “In Malaysia, halal is not just about compliance. It is a matter of trust, cultural respect, and spiritual assurance.
“Working closely with Jakim, we’ve ensured full compliance across sourcing, kitchen operations and staff training.
“Achieving certification actually deepens the bond we share with Malaysians and demonstrates that we value what matters to them most.”
Ikea Malaysia has followed halal practices for nearly 30 years, from sourcing halal-certified ingredients to strictly prohibiting non-permissible items in its kitchens.
The Jakim certification formalises these practices after rigorous inspections covering ingredient traceability, kitchen workflows, and staff training.
The certification also aligns with Ikea Malaysia’s broader commitment to quality, safety, sustainability, and inclusivity in its food offerings.
“We are always looking for ways to make the Ikea food experience more inclusive, accessible and affordable,” Pruys said.
“That also includes continuing to introduce more sustainable choices, cutting down on food waste, and simply serving meals that are not only delicious, but also better for people and the planet.”
With the certification, Ikea Malaysia reinforces its promise to provide Malaysians not only with home furnishings but also with meals that respect local values and expectations.
