KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 11 — A Chinese family in Singapore spared no effort to welcome their grandmother to the Lion City following the reopening of China's borders recently.

Observations by a journalist of 8world television programme found the family of four arriving at Changi airport armed with a board.

Written on the board were the words 'Warm Welcome to Our Beloved Maternal Grandmother', alongside a bouquet of flowers.

Upon seeing the senior citizen, the son-in-law rolled out the red carpet to welcome her before a boy stepped up to hand over the flowers.

The reopening of borders has allowed many families to reunite.

A Chinese man staying in Singapore, who identified himself by his surname Yan, said the last time he saw his family physically was in 2018 due to the Covid-19 lockdown.

He told the journalist that he would be making arrangements to let them move to Singapore and the children to be educated at the republic.

Expressing his joy for being able to see his family, Yan said he had been keeping in touch with them via video or phone calls prior to the reopening.

Social media users were, however, less than enthusiastic over Chinese visitors' arrival.

According to Facebook user Nort Ahtiong, firecrackers are luckily banned at arrival halls.

Meanwhile, Ken Tan sarcastically said that the families should have gotten a lion dance troupe to welcome their visitors.
