KUALA LUMPUR, June 26 —A book fair organised by Popular Book Co (M) Sdn Bhd (POPULAR) and themed ’Read More Malaysia... Embrace the World’ has attracted a large number of book lovers, including Muslim readers who in a festive mood and celebrating the second day of Aidilfitri.

Just like many others, Husna Inani Abdul Jabar, 24, was busy ‘shopping’ for her favourite books at book fair held at the KLCC today.

Husna and her friend, both from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and pursuing a degree in Information Technology, said it was the first time she was visiting the POPULAR book fair, after she was invited by her friend.

“The place was crowded and a variety of books to choose from. I don’t feel it was a waste of time coming here. Yesterday I had celebrated Hari Raya Aidilfitri with my family, so today I decided to go out with my friends since the roads were not congested.

“We also took the opportunity to go out and see how people were celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri in the city... I am looking for books related to horror stories, it’s my favourite,” she said when met by Bernama.

Bank officer Hildah Hamzah, 38, said she has made it a point to visit the book fair every year or every time such a book fair is held.

“Visiting a book fair has become a routine for me. I bought psychology and mystery books. When you read this kind of psychology books, you can apply it in your daily life. I’ve bought books for my boys too,” said Hildah who will be heading to Penang tomorrow to continue her Aidilfitri celebrations.

Meanwhile, POPULAR marketing manager Alicia Goh said response from book lovers for the 12th edition of the book fair was very encouraging although it is the festive season because the number of visitors had been steadily increasing since the opening day (June 24).

“Last year, about 680,000 visited the book fair and we expect a bigger number this year due to the long holidays. In total, 678 publishing and distribution houses are exhibiting their products,” said Goh adding that the book fair would end on July 2.

Entrance for students below the age of 18 and senior citizens is free while normal visitors pay an entrance fee of RM2.50. — Bernama
