SINGAPORE, July 30 — The next edition of the Singapore Biennale will take place next year, from Oct 28, 2016 to Feb 26, 2017. The event is commissioned by the National Arts Council and organised by the Singapore Art Museum (SAM).

The last Biennale was held in 2013 and featured the theme If The World Changed. Around 82 artists and art collectives from 13 countries participated in the four-month event that drew 560,000 visitors. The coming fifth edition was originally scheduled to be held this year, but organisers postponed it due to the busy Jubilee Year calendar.

“The Singapore Biennale dates have been moved from 2015 to the later part of 2016 to give focus to the many national events marking the nation’s birthday,” said SAM director Sie Lingham.

“2016 is also a significant year for the Singapore Art Museum, as we celebrate our 20th anniversary as Singapore’s first stand-alone art museum. We are working towards the presentation of exciting new artworks, and collaborations across the region and beyond in the next edition of the Singapore Biennale.” — TODAY
