KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 25 — In what appears to be a revolutionary and bold move, MyMotor Malaysia, affiliated to MYEG, the Malaysian portal dealing in insurance, road tax and driving license renewals announced today that they have a limited number of Toyota C-HR available for sale with immediate effect, with more to follow, ahead of the official launch by UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd, who are the official importers and CKD assemblers of the Toyota brand in Malaysia.
According to Edward Tan, GM of MyMotor Malaysia, MyMotor has a ready stock of 19 units of the Toyota C-HR already landed in Malaysia which can be registered in time for the coming Chinese New Year, while another batch of 20 units are on the way. Tan also stated that these are ‘recond’ cars with mileage clocked on the car odometers. Thus we have to assume that these are ‘used’ or ‘reconditioned’ cars imported using used car Approval Permits (APs).
The C-HR units offered by MyMotor are purchased off the Japan domestic market, and are based on Japanese specifications. Whereas the UMW Toyota plan is to bring in the 1.8 litre Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) variant, MyMotor is importing the 1.2 litre gasoline turbo-charged model with All-Wheel Drive (AWD).
MyMotor is offering two variants, with the same mechanicals but with two levels of trim, the main difference being the seat material, fabric and half-leather. According to Tan, pricing is between RM170,000 to RM180,000, depending on year of manufacture. He mentioned that they had 2016 and end 2017 year models.
Potential customers can opt for three modes of payment: outright cash purchase, leasing or hire purchase. For leasing customers, the package would include three years warranty (Insurance warranty), and a three year service package with parts included, the cost of which will be added into the leasing package, as well as financing for the same period. For hire purchase and cash buyers, we are told that the buyer can purchase an insurance warranty package for approximately RM1,000 per year.
Upon checking with our sources in UMW Toyota, we are told that MyMotor are considered as ‘grey’ importers, and have no connection to UMW Toyota.
