KANGAR, Jan 28 — Malaysians need not possess an international licence to drive in Thailand, assured Thailand’s Ambassador to Malaysia Damrong Kraikruan.
He dismissed claims that Thai authorities had issued an order effective February 1 requiring Malaysians to have an international licence to drive on Thailand’s roads.
“Such information being circulated in the social media is not true at all,” he said when met here today before leaving for Kuala Lumpur.
He had an audience with Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail yesterday, at Istana Arau.
Erroneous information that Thai authorities would be mounting roadblocks at certain locations to apprehend foreigners driving without international licence was also being circulated.
“In the spirit of Asean, member countries recognise the driving licence issued by their respective authorities as valid,” he said. — Bernama
