KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 4 — A hefty down payment is rumoured to be awaiting each Blackpink member upon renewal of their contract with YG Entertainment which is due on August 8.

The contract renewal of the South Korean girl band has caught the entertainment industry’s attention due to rising speculations of uncertainties between the band and its music agency.

According to Allkpop, interest is growing in the size of the contract renewal with Blackpink.

Quoting industry analyst Cha Yu Mi, the report said the down payment per member is estimated to be around USD770,000 (RM3.5 million) to USD1.15 million (5.23 million) based on previous deals with Big Bang and Twice.

It was also reported that it seems unlikely that a decision will be made before the end of the band’s Born Pink world tour scheduled in the US from August 11 until August 16.

The report also quoted an YG Entertainment official saying that an early agreement might be possible but due to the already scheduled world tour performances, the current contract will likely be maintained until at least the end of August.

Despite speculations that the concerts scheduled at the end of August could be a positive signal for contract renewal, rumours have surfaced about individual members, such as Lisa, Jennie, Jisoo, and Rosé, potentially exploring opportunities with overseas entertainment agencies or even setting up their own personal agencies.

However, no official confirmation has been released by the members.
