KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 13 — The audience at the Dave Chappelle comedy show yesterday greeted tech billionaire Elon Musk with of boos in San Francisco, home of Twitter's headquarters.
The SpaceX, Tesla and Twitter CEO's appearance at the special Punchline Comedy Club initially received a mix of cheers and jeers after Chappelle announced the entrepreneur's appearance before it was followed by jeers.
"It sounds like some of the people you fired are in the audience,” Chappelle quipped, drawing laughter from the audience.
"All those people that are booing, and I'm just pointing out the obvious - they have terrible seats, and I understand,” Chappelle continued.
The cold reception wasn't helped by Musk's failed attempt to make light of the situation when he responded by throwing out Chappelle’s famous Rick James impression saying, "I'm rich, *****!” which was loudly replied with overwhelming boos for several minutes.
Twitter user James Yu, who said he was at the Chappelle show, tweeted: "A good 80% of the stadium boos. 18k people.”
The crowd's response to Musk comes after he spent much of the weekend wading into culture wars, transphobic statements and echoing QAnon tropes.
