PETALING JAYA, Oct 3 — Be chill. Another ice cream shop has entered the frozen desserts playground, bringing tea infused scoops crafted by a tea professional.

Barely one week old, Kaorisabo is helmed by Shizuoka native Yashihiro Okada who champions the art of tea.

Previously in Hong Kong, the teashop shuttered last year and now Okada is bringing this brand to Malaysia with a focus on cold treats and tea.

Located right above Little Bro Noodles, the space is rustic yet comfortable to relish the ice cream and a cup of tea.

It sits in an area peppered with eateries serving all kinds of food from chicken rice, Nyonya food and even East Malaysia noodles, making sure you won’t go home without a cool treat after a satisfying meal.

Churned in small batches — usually every two to three days — the preservative-free ice cream is ultra silky smooth.

Steps have also been taken to preserve its freshness by storing it in stainless steel containers similar to the built-in stainless steel pozzetti containers, usually used in swanky ice cream spots.

The daily roster includes Matcha, Genmaicha, Hojicha, Masala Chai and Phoenix Oolong.

Crowd favourites are Hojicha with its distinct roasted green tea flavour and Genmaicha with a nuttier flavour with the use of roasted brown rice.

Three flavours — Matcha, Hojicha and Genmaicha — use tea powders to make the ice cream. Other tea ice cream use tea leaves for a subtle flavour.

There’s a rotating list of unique specials, inspired by local ingredients like Watermelon and Mint, Gula Melaka and Ginger, and Teh O Limau.

The current special Matcha and Orange may sound like a disaster in the making but it’s not.

Both flavours are churned separately and then gently combined together, giving you the best of both with refreshing orange and aromatic matcha.

For a stronger flavour, opt for the Tea Affogato for an extra RM8, as each tea flavour boosts your ice cream with a choice of Hojicha, Matcha or Genmaicha pour over.

Other choices include Sencha Suiko, Japanese Black Tea and Earl Grey Black Tea.

Specialty kombucha and Darjeeling first flush tea and Wu Dong Shui Xiang from a 300-year tree are also available.

One scoop of ice cream is RM12 and the second scoop is an additional RM8, that can be enjoyed in a cup or cone form, an extra RM2.
