SINGAPORE — A 24-year-old man who had sex with an underage girl twice in a month was sentenced to 12 months’ jail today, after pleading guilty to one charge of sexual penetration of a minor.

Lim En Zer also consented for three other similar charges to be taken into consideration for sentencing.

The court heard that Lim met the victim three times in person, with two of those being sexual encounters. She had told him that she was 14 years old, but that did not deter him from inviting her to his home.

They got to know each other through a mutual friend sometime in early June last year. They exchanged numbers and started sending each other messages.

About a week later, Lim suggested they meet at his home in Yio Chu Kang.

It was not made clear in court when the victim took up Lim’s invitation, but the first sexual encounter took place when she visited his home one afternoon in mid-June.

Lim took her into his bedroom when she got there, and they began cuddling.

He then undressed her, took off his own clothes, and had sex with her without using a condom.

According to the charge sheets, the second sexual encounter took place between late June and early July at a redacted location.

A few months later, on August 7, the police were informed of a case of sexual assault by KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

For sexual penetration of a minor, Lim could have been jailed up to 10 years and/or fined. — TODAY
