SINGAPORE, July 7 — A 44-year-old man who allegedly molested a woman on-board a train last Sunday was charged today with one count of outrage of modesty.

Sim Teck Chye is accused of committing the incident on an SMRT train travelling along Tuas Link MRT station to Pasir Ris MRT station.

The Singaporean had allegedly stroked the left thigh of an unknown woman, and a video of him caught in the act went viral. 

In a statement, the police said Sim’s identity was established after officers from the Jurong Police Division and the Pubilc Transport Council conducted extensive ground enquiries.

Sim was arrested on Wednesday at 4.45pm by officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division at Hougang Mall following a tip off from a member of the public.

Sim will be remanded for two weeks at the Institute of Mental Health for psychiatric evaluation. 

If found guilty, Sim who will return to court on July 21, faces a maximum two-year jail term or a fine or caning or a combination of all the punishments. — TODAY
