SINGAPORE, June 2 — Keep those sunglasses and umbrellas handy.
Warmer days are ahead, with temperatures in the day set to hit highs of around 35°C, as the Republic enters the Southwest Monsoon season, which heralds drier weather conditions and winds blowing from the south.
The National Environment Agency (NEA) said in its latest weather advisory yesterday that there may be short-duration thundery showers in the late morning and early afternoon on three or five days during the first fortnight of June.
The second half of the month will see one or two days of thundery showers with gusty winds between the predawn hours and early morning.
Rainfall is expected to fall below-normal during this period, with the daily mercury potentially reaching a high of around 35°C, and a daily minimum of around 26°C.
The temperature is expected to range between 25°C and 34°C in the last two weeks of June.
NEA noted that there were some warm days in May as the Northeast Monsoon season ended and transitioned into the inter-monsoon phase.
At the Changi climate station, the mean monthly temperature recorded in May was 28.4°C, which is around 0.1°C warmer than the long-term mean temperature for May.
The highest daily maximum temperature of 35.3°C was recorded in the north-eastern part of Singapore on May 17.
