SINGAPORE — Two separate drug busts conducted by the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) yesterday have led to the arrest of four suspected drug offenders.
The total haul, which consisted 1.2kg of heroin, 445g of cannabis, 69g of ‘Ice’ and 183 ‘Ecstasy’ tablets, was estimated to be worth more than S$118,000 (RM362,717), said CNB in a press release today.
In the first raid, CNB officers entered a private apartment at Orange Grove Road, a second-floor unit which they suspected to be a drug store, and noticed a broken window in the master bedroom. Officers saw two male suspects on the ground floor who subsequently entered a vacant unit on the ground floor. They were arrested in the vacant unit.
The suspects, aged 30 and 32, were brought to their two rented cars where officers began a search. This led to the discovery of about 12g of heroin and 9g of ‘Ice’ from one of the cars.
A subsequent search of the unit found about 704g of heroin, 445g of cannabis, 59g of ‘Ice’ and 183 ‘Ecstasy’ tablets. Knives, parangs, a replica gun and cash amounting to S$6,024 were recovered from the unit as well, said CNB.
In the second operation, which took place in the vicinity of Boon Lay Drive, officers were deployed to nab a suspected drug supplier who was delivering a consignment of drugs to his client. Officers spotted the suspect, a 38-year-old man, driving a blue-coloured car into a carpark. He subsequently met with a suspected female trafficker at a second-floor unit of a HDB block and parted ways shortly after.
Officers arrested the suspected supplier before he could get back to the car and found about 228g of heroin in a bag at the front passenger seat and another 40g of heroin concealed in a compartment behind the rear seat.
CNB officers also raided the unit of the suspected trafficker, a 41-year-old woman, where they seized about 91g of heroin, a small amount of ‘Ice’ and a digital weighing scale.
The suspected drug supplier was brought back to his hideout in Jalan Bukit Merah where a search by officers recovered about 157g of heroin wrapped in newspaper and hidden inside a soft toy.
Investigations are currently ongoing. If convicted, the four may face the death penalty. The Misuse of Drugs Act provides for the death penalty if the amount of diamorphine (or pure heroin) trafficked exceeds 15g. — TODAY
