SINGAPORE, May 22 — Fourteen of the 15 crew members who were on board a Bolivian-registered barge are still missing a day after it capsized in Singapore waters, said the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) yesterday.
The sand-carrier Oceanline SC208 was towed to sheltered Malaysian waters yesterday morning, after it had drifted into the country’s waters overnight, said the MPA in a news release.
Vessels from the MPA, the Republic of Singapore Navy and Singapore’s Police Coast Guard will continue search-and-rescue operations in Singapore waters. Navigational broadcasts on the operations are on-going.
The MPA has also contacted transiting merchant vessels to keep a lookout for the missing seamen and report any sightings to the Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Singapore.
The Oceanline SC208 capsized in Singapore waters on Wednesday. One of the crew members, a Chinese national, was reportedly rescued by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency. — TODAY
