SINGAPORE, Dec 2 — Singapore is to deploy around 50-60 personnel to help the international effort against militant Islamist group the Islamic State, Defence Minister Ng Eng hen said yesterday.

The personnel and a KC-135R air-to-air refuelling aircraft will be deployed to Middle Eastern countries surrounding Iraq and Syria including United States Central Command in Qatar and the Combined Joint Task Force headquarters.

From where they will aid coalition forces in the fight against the Islamic State, who currently control large areas of land across Iraq and Syria.

The personnel will include an image analysis team and will include no SAF combat troops on the ground. — Reuters
