AUGUST 27 — These days, the moment a journalist gets sued, somebody will shout press freedom. Another will shout intimidation. Then social media gets busy and, five minutes later, everybody has decided who is the hero and who is the villain.
Easy lah. But journalism isn’t supposed to be that easy.
Gunasegaram is being sued by Salim Fateh Din, MRCB’s deputy executive chairman, over an article concerning the LRT3 project. Salim says he was defamed. Gunasegaram says he stands by what he wrote.
Fine. Then let them fight it out and that’s what a court is for.
I actually find that more interesting than all the shouting outside the courtroom.
Because if I were in Gunasegaram’s shoes, the question I’d want to answer is very simple: Was what I wrote true, fair and supported by what I knew at the time?
If the answer is yes, then stand your ground.
Jangan takut… Lawan…
