NEW YORK, May 5 — A new study of 3,431 US consumers finds that the vast majority of travellers are well informed about Zika and are not letting the virus change their plans.
According to the Travel Leaders Group, 87.1 per cent of those polled have heard about the virus. What's more, only 0.6 per cent of respondents said that Zika had caused them to cancel a trip.
“Clearly, many American travellers are informed about Zika, whether from the news media, the CDC or from the conversations our travel agents are having with them on a daily basis,” said Travel Leaders Group CEO Ninan Chacko.
“What this consumer survey data indicates to us is that Americans are fairly well-educated on Zika and are moving forward with their travel plans.”
However, only 21.2 per cent of US travellers questioned have visited a country with a confirmed case of Zika in 2016 and just 23.2 per cent intend to visit one of those countries during the course of the year, compared with 30.9 per cent who simply said “no” and a further 29.3 per cent that responded that they had no intention of visiting. — AFP-Relaxnews
