DENPASAR, March 24 — Bali’s Ubud Market was engulfed by a huge fire early this morning.
This is the third market that the resort island has lost to a blaze this year.
Last month, Pasar Bandung, Bali’s biggest and oldest traditional market in Denpasar, suffered a similar fate, as did another in the district of Legian.
Mashable reported the news after Indonesia’s Regional Disaster Management Agency confirmed on its Facebook page today that fire rescue personnel had been sent to the scene, after receiving an emergency call.
Based on eyewitness accounts, it appears that the fire caused extensive damage before it could be put out.
The relatively new market was popular with travellers to Bali because it housed numerous stalls selling art, souvenirs and clothing.
There have been no reports of casualties so far.
