SINGAPORE, Dec 14 — Members of the public ushering in the new year at Marina Bay on December 31 can expect better views of an eight-minute firework display as it spans across the entire bay for the first time.

The public will get to see new fireworks formations from more locations around the bay, particularly with the opening of the Jubilee Bridge this year, said Marina Bay Singapore Countdown organisers, The Esplanade and the Urban Redevelopment Authority, today in a press release.

The firework display will be accompanied by an original score composed by music director Julian Wong.

There will also be a synchronised themed lighting for various buildings around the bay, said the organisers, outlining the highlights of the countdown event.

Five minutes before midnight, The Fullerton Hotel Singapore will put up a final showcase of its special projection show that will culminate in a countdown sequence.

“Last year, we reflected on our journey and celebrated our achievements over the past 50 years. With the Marina Bay Singapore Countdown 2016, we start a new chapter in the Singapore story by coming together as a nation and imagining the possibilities that the future holds,” said Mr Benson Puah, Chief Executive Officer of The Esplanade. “We hope to capture the excitement and anticipation of looking ahead, wishing earnestly and dreaming big.”

Other events on the evening of Dec 31 include the Marina Waterfront Bazaar and the Celebrate 2016 concert organised by MediaCorp at The Float @ Marina Bay.

Members of the public can continue penning their wishes on spheres at 21 stations across the island until Dec 20. The final batches of the wishing spheres will be installed in Marina Bay and lit from Dec 26 to 31. Netizens and Singaporeans overseas can also make virtual wishes at this link.
