GEORGE TOWN, Nov 13 — The Unesco World Heritage site of George Town is no stranger to quirky art form and rich culture.
For the next four months, Malaysians and foreigners alike can add the fun-tastic “Project Occupy Beach Street” to their itinerary on their next visit to Penang.
Hundreds thronged the Sunday bazaar that was filled with exciting games, activities and programmes catering to people from all walks of life.
At the intersection of Lebuh Downing and Lebuh Pantai, spectators were awed by the powerful and swift intercepting movements of Wing Chun showcased by Ip Man Wing Chun Penang team, led by its chief instructor Aaron Boey.
Shutterbugs were busy taking photographs of the explosive speed of power punching during the Wing Chun Kung Fu demonstration.
The four-month-long “Project Occupy Beach Street” organised by the state government in conjunction with Car-Free Day in Beach Street (Lebuh Pantai) , also features more than 20 stalls selling a variety of food.
Apart from a kung fu demonstration, visitors were taken on a trip down memory lane with a classic Combi car on display.
The unique selling concept, with some goodies arranged neatly in the mini-van, drew the crowd.
Children and adults were also given the freedom to draw with chalk on the tarred road.
Many families enjoyed rides on the quad bike (four-wheel) along the car-free street.
