MADRID, Aug 8 — Goalkeeper Luca Zidane, the son of French football great and new national team coach Zinedine Zidane, has left Granada for Leganes, the Spanish second-tier clubs announced yesterday.
Madrid side Leganes unveiled the signing of the French-born Algeria international, 28, for one year with an option for a second season.
Granada said they and the player had “reached an agreement to terminate the contractual relationship that bound them” after Zidane’s underwhelming 45 appearances in two seasons for the Andalusians.
Leganes is his latest chapter in the Spanish second division after previous spells at Racing Santander, Eibar and Rayo Vallecano.
Luca Zidane played for Real Madrid’s reserve team after working his way up from its youth academy, which he joined in 2004.
The shot-stopper debuted with the first team in their last league game in the 2017/18 season and was the third-choice goalkeeper when Real won their 13th Champions League title in 2018.
He represented France at youth levels but switched to Algeria last year, playing for the north African country at this year’s World Cup in North America. — AFP
