KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20 ― National sprint king, Khairul Hafiz Jantan hopes the one-month training in Germany early next year will improve his running technique for two important championships, namely the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games.

The 100m and 200m national record holder said through intensive training there, he hoped to learn about dieting and training practised by European sprinters.

“I will leave it completely to my coach (Mohd Poad Md Kassim) to determine the suitable form of training there and this will be my second stint as I was trained there last year with other team members,” he said.

He added that after the training in Germany, he would be participating in the 17th World Indoor Championships in England even though he did not have any specific target for his debut as he wanted to focus on the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.

The 2018 Commonwealth Games will be held from April 4 to 15 in Gold Coast, Australia while the Asian Games will be from Aug 18 to Sept 2 in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, Mohd Poad said Germany was selected for Khairul Hafiz as it had the best facilities for the young sprinter to prepare for the two major meets.

“So far, only Khairul Hafiz will be sent to train there but I hope the National Sports Council will approve my application to send several sprinters other such as Badrul Hisyam Abdul Manap, Jonathan Nyepa and Nixson Kennedy there,” he said.

Earlier, Khairul Hafiz and Mohd Poad were met by reporters after the launch of the latest branch of sportswear distributor, Sports Direct from United Kingdom here today.

The event was also attended by Sports Direct Malaysia managing director Paul Gibbons, British High Commissioner to Malaysia Vicki Treadell and Olympic Council of Malaysia president, Tan Sri Tunku Imran Tuanku Jaáfar. ― Bernama
