MALACCA, Oct 23 — Melaka United, the 2016 Premier League champions, failed to capitalise on home ground advantage when they played to a 1-1 draw with league bottomers Sime Darby in their last league match here last night.
Playing before 35,000 spectators at Hang Jebat Stadium in Krubong here, Melaka United were control most of the match but they were miserable with their finishing.
It was minnows Sime Darby who opened scoring in the 79th minute via Roskam after several close attempts by both sides.
Melaka United were awarded a free kick in the 91st minute when captain Spasojevic was brought down in Sime's half and Mohd Saiful Mustafa succeeded in slotting the ball in the top left corner to beat goalkeeper Mohamad Redzuan Harun for the equaliser.
After the match, Melaka United were officially presented the Premier League trophy by Melaka Yang diPertua Negeri Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob. — Bernama
