KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 6 — National junior squash ace Ivan Yuen lived up to expectations by moving into the semifinals of the men’s singles in the World Universities Squash Championships after beating Ho Wai Yeung from Hong Kong in straight sets.
Ivan Yuen, the third seed in the tournament, beat Wai Yeung 11-7, 11-2, 11-8 in a lop-sided quarterfinal at the National Squash Centre in Bukit Jalil, here today.
“I am certainly pleased with my performance today and hope to maintain my momentum in the semifinals tomorrow. I guess I played my best match so far,” he told reporters after his match today.
Ivan Yuen will meet England’s Joshua Masters.
“I have to prepare well for tomorrow since I had lost to Joshua in the Professional Squash Association Tour (PSA) Championships in New Zealand,” he said.
Another Malaysian who featured in the quarterfinals, Muhammad Adden Idrakie, however, failed to advance after losing to Hong Kong’s Tsz Fung Yip in straight sets. — Bernama
