KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 15 — National squash players suffered mixed fortunes in the preliminary rounds of the 2016 World Squash Federation (WSF) World International Doubles Tournament held at the Darwin Squash Centre in Australia, today.

Arnold sisters, Rachel and Delia of Malaysia 1 lost to Joshna Chinappa/Dipika Pallikal of India 1; 7-11, 10-11 before bouncing back to edge their teammates Aika Azman/Teh Min Jie of Malaysia 2, 11-8, 11-4 in their second Pool A match, according to the tournament website; www.wsfworlddoubles.com.

Aika/Teh had earlier lost 8-11, 11-8, 10-11 to Sarah Cardwell/Christie Nunn of Australia 2 in their opening match.

In the men’s doubles Sanjay Singh Chal/Ivan Yuen of Malaysia 2 also suffered the same fate, losing 4-11, 6-11 to David Palmer/Alexander Zac of Australia 2 before going down 2-11, 8-11 to Australia 1 pair Ryan Cuskelly/Cameron Pilley in their second Pool A match.

Mohd Nafiizwan Adnan/Mohammad Syafiq Kamal represent Malaysia 1, however, scored a 11-9, 11-10 win against Douglas Kempsell/Kevin Moran of Scotland 2 in a Pool B match.

Sanjay who teamed up with Delia, then, lost 8-11, 3-11 to Cameron/Rachel Grinham of Australia 1 in their mixed doubles Pool A match.

Rachel and Mohamad Syafiq of Malaysia 2 also went down 7-11, 4-11 to India 1 pair Saurav Ghosal/Dipika Pallikal in a Pool B match.

Seven countries are taking part in the fourth edition of the tournament, namely Wales, Colombia, India, New Zealand, Scotland, Malaysia and Australia as the host.

For the record, Australia are the reigning champions in the men’s and mixed doubles events whereas New Zealand won the women’s doubles when it was held for the third time in 2006 in Australia.

The first and second editions of the tournament which features three categories — men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles — was held in Hong Kong (1997) and Mumbai, India in 2004. — Bernama
