PETALING JAYA, May 26 — The Indonesian Open Premier Super Series scheduled from Monday to June 5 will be National badminton ace Datuk Lee Chong Wei’s best platform to tune up for the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in Brazil.

The world number two who heads to Rio in August said the tournament in Jakarta would be a very important competition since all the top 10 players in the world would be competing.

“Malaysian shuttlers will leave to Jakarta on Saturday to compete in the Indonesian Open because the closing date for entries is after the Australian Open Grand Prix Gold from June 5 to 10. The draw for the Olympics is expected after the closing date,” said Chong Wei when met after being appointed an ambassador for the Purple League Badminton Championships, here today.

Chong Wei added that he would allow his coaches Hendrawan and Tey Seu Bock to chart his training programme for the Olympics.

“I will follow their instructions and training programme. Most importantly I must stay focused on preparing myself for the Olympics,” said Chong Wei who will stay competitive until the 2017 SEA Games although he would be 34 by then. — Bernama
