KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 27 — National track cyclist Muhd Arfy Qhairant Amran who made a successful comeback after taking a break from competition to undergo training as a cadet police, hopes to break into the 2017 SEA Games squad.

Muhd Arfy, 22, winner of a gold medal at the 2011 Asian Cycling Championships, decided to take a break last year to pursue a career in the police force.

After undergoing cadet training, Muhd Arfy, who had since been actively involved in cycling during his cadet training, made a glorious return to competition in October by winning a gold in keirin and silver medal in the sprint at the 2015 National Cycling Championships.

“After the SUKMA (Sukan Malaysia) in Perlis, I took a break to undergo training in the police force,” Muhd Arfy told reporters at the Cheras Velodrome here today.

“I am back in competitions and hope to fully concentrate on earning a place in the SEA Games squad.

“I have discussed the prospect with my coach Junaidi Mohamad Nasir and my focus will be on the sprint events.”

Muhd Arfy has since been drafted into the SEA Games backup squad.

“I am happy with my progress and hope to focus on my training to try and win a medal in the SEA Games since I have not participated in a SEA Games yet,” he said.
