PETALING JAYA, July 6 — Rifle specialist Nur Ayuni Farhana Abdul Halim, who won gold in the SEA Games individual women’s 50m rifle three prone, is now focused on winning a ticket to next year’s Rio Olympics.

The Pahang lass, who ended an eight-year SEA Games gold medal draught, said she needs to be in the top eight in the World Cup held in Gabala, Azerbaijan from Aug 6 to 16 to stand a chance.

“It is every athlete’s dream to compete in the Olympics, she said. “I want to make my debut in Rio.

“But first, I need to shine in Azerbaijan where I need to be in final (top eight). From there, I hope to get my ticket, usually given to the top two,” said the 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medalist.

“In 2012, only my teammate Nur Suryani Taibi earned a ticket. This year, I hope it will be me.

“I have worked hard. I kept up with my intensive training even during Ramadan. There is no rest day.

“I hope my hard work will pay off.”

Ayuni said other than Azerbaijan, another chance for her to qualify is at the Asian Championships in Kuwait in November.
