KUALA LUMPUR, June 1 — The national netball squad started on the right footing at the 2015 SEA Games after recording a 84-22 victory over Myanmar in their opening match at the OCBC Arena, Singapore Sport Hubs, yesterday.
Hosts Singapore, who are hunting for the gold medal for the first time in the event beat Brunei 72-21 while Thailand trounced the Philippines 62-22 in earlir matches, according to the Singapore SEA Games website www.games2015.com.
In the second round tomorrow, Malaysia will face the Philippines, Singapore take on Thailand while Brunei will square off against Myanmar. All the matches would take place tomorrow, at the same venue.
Six nations are taking part in netball in this 28th edition of the biennial games, namely, Myanmar, Brunei, Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore.
For the record, this is the second time the event is being held after it was introduced when Malaysia hosted the SEA Games in 2001, which saw the home team winning the gold medal via a 53-42 win over Singapore at Stadium Juara, Bukit Kiara. — Bernama
