SINGAPORE, Jan 19 — Malaysia scored their second consecutive victory in the World League Second Round after whipping Oman 7-0 in a Group A match at the Sengkang Hockey Stadium, here today.
Coach Tai Beng Hai said in the World League, the three points collected are more important than the amount of goals scored.
"Most importantly, we took all the three points and that is important because our objective is to move into the semifinals and later make the final. It will be pointless to score a lot of goals but not achieve the target," he said after the match, here today.
Beng Hai nevertheless, praised his charges for displaying a flawless performance compared with the first match against Ukraine on Saturday.
Malaysia set the early pace and led 4-0 in the first half before adding another three after the break.
Muhammad Razie Abdul Rahim opened the floodgates in the 7th minute before Faizal Saari added two goals in the (17th, 38th min), Marhan Abdul Jalil added a brace in the (22nd, 27th) while Izwan Firdaus Ahmad Tajuddin (44th) and Tengku Ahmad Tajuddin Tengku Abdul Jalil (46th) completed the rout.
