KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 30 — The Terengganu Hockey Team (THT) created history when it clinched the 2014 TNB Malaysia Hockey League Championship title with a thumping win of 9-2 against Sapura Hockey Club during the finals at the Kuala Terengganu City Council Stadium, Terengganu today.
THT managed to clinch 27 points after overcoming main challenger Kuala Lumpur Hockey Club (KLHC), last year’s champion, which collected 24 points.
As early as the third minute, the visiting team netted the first goal through Faridzul Afiq Mohd but the THT squad equalised with a 1-1 standing, which was made by Tengku Ahmad Tajuddin Tengku Abd Jalil five minutes later.
THT began its winning streak when Mohd Fitri Saari netted another goal in the ninth minute followed by Faizal Saari in the 14th minute, Muhammad Firhan Ashaari (15th minute) Ismail Abu (15th minute), Seo Jong Ho (16th minute) and Sobirin Lias (30th minute).
However Sapura team managed to obtain a second goal through Khasif Ali in the 38th minute.
The home team returned to add its goal collection through Muhammad Firhan at the 49th minute before Seo Jong Ho confirmed THT’s victory through its ninth goal at the 52nd minute.
In the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil, KLHC failed to defend its championship title when it was humbled 1-5 by UniKL.
The third placing went to TNB team after it collected 13 points despite 3-3 draw to the Maybank team in the finals at the same venue.
All the six teams will proceed to grab the TNB-MHL 2014 Cup that began this Friday. — Bernama
