SINGAPORE, Oct 8 — Singapore authorities recovered more than S$639,000 (RM2.04 million) in outstanding fines from 265 foreign motorists during an enforcement operation at Singapore’s land checkpoints from September 28 to 30.

The operation, led by the Traffic Police (TP) and supported by the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA), Housing and Development Board, Land Transport Authority (LTA), National Environment Agency and Urban Redevelopment Authority, targeted foreign motorists with outstanding summonses.

“Foreign motorists with outstanding fines were stopped and directed to settle their fines for vehicular and traffic offences when they entered Singapore at the land checkpoints,” the authorities said in a joint statement on Thursday.

They said Singapore authorities regularly conducted operations against such motorists, and those with outstanding fines for traffic, parking or vehicular emissions offences could be denied entry into Singapore.

“Singapore takes a serious view of foreign motorists who have committed offences in Singapore and do not settle their fines,” they said.

The authorities also reminded foreign motorists that from November 2 this year, foreign-registered vehicles with outstanding fines for traffic, parking or vehicular emissions offences committed in Singapore would not be able to apply for or renew their Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP).

All foreign-registered vehicles are required to have a valid VEP to enter Singapore. — Bernama
