KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 — Muar MP Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman is officially on the countdown to ending his bachelorhood, with only days remaining before he ties the knot with singer-actress Bella Astillah.
This comes after nearly a year of keeping their relationship under wraps through coy denials and subtle social media posts which culminated in a surprise proposal on top of Mount Kinabalu followed by an engagement on March 28 this year.
As their big day inched closer, more details about their relationship and their wedding have begun to emerge, especially following the premiere of the first episode of the Walimatul Urus Bella Astillah & Syed Saddiq documentary on Tuesday.
The couple has been affectionately dubbed “BASS” by fans, a portmanteau formed from their initials — the “B” and “A” from Bella Astillah, and the “S” and “S” from Syed Saddiq.
The nickname has since become the couple’s unofficial brand, appearing in the title of their documentary and in the hashtags used across their social media updates.
From customised songket and solemnisation on the 118th floor to kursus kahwin (marriage course) at Four Seasons and more — here’s everything we know so far about Bella Astillah and Syed Saddiq’s upcoming wedding.
Multiple receptions and ‘kenduri rakyat’
So far, BASS is set to hold four different wedding receptions across Kuala Lumpur, Johor and Sabah throughout the month of October beginning with their main wedding ceremony on October 10 which will take place at the 118th floor of Merdeka 118.
Despite hosting the first ever wedding ceremony at the top of the second tallest building in the world, Syed Saddiq previously said that their focus was not on being lavish which is why the guest list was scaled down to just about 200 guests.
The pair will then hold a special reception dinner on October 18, set to take place at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Mitec) in KL. Both the wedding ceremony and dinner reception will be broadcast live exclusively on Astro.
This is then followed by another wedding reception at Syed Saddiq’s constituency in Muar on October 25 which he described as a ‘kenduri rakyat’ (the people’s feast), where the couple will collaborate with local brands to distribute over RM300,000 worth of daily essentials to families in need.
BASS will then continue the celebrations at Bella’s home state of Sabah where they will hold another ‘kenduri rakyat’ on October 31 at Kota Kinabalu.
Although Bella is from Sandakan, the decision to hold it at Kota Kinabalu was mainly due to logistical reasons.
For now, honeymoon plans remain on the back burner.
Their October 10 ceremony lands right on the heels of the Budget 2027 presentation, leaving Syed Saddiq to head back to Parliament just days later for the policy debate stage.
BASS preparations
Amongst the highlights from their newly released documentary was indeed the wedding preparations.
For their receptions, Bella ordered custom-made handwoven songket from Terengganu Songket, which was founded by the late national master crafter Hajah Zainab @ Ngah Mamat.
She also brought in Faizul Surani, group CEO of Rizalman Ibrahim Group of Companies, as her fashion advisor.
Faizul said that he visualised something classic that was not too typical and held special meaning for the pair and that Bella was very hands-on when it came to their wedding outfits.
“Bella isn’t clueless when it comes to fashion — she knows exactly what she wants and is very hands-on with her wedding plans.
“There were times when she’d ask for a specific thread, and I’d point out that it didn’t look custom-made enough and felt like something easily available off the rack.
“So, we collaborated by blending my ideas with hers to create something truly unique and distinct,” Faizul said in the documentary.
Meanwhile, Terengganu Songket director, Hajar Ariffin said that she was surprised and honoured after learning that Bella wanted to use their service for their special day and she pointed out that the songket ordered by Bella will come directly from Terengganu.
“My mom just flew back to Terengganu to oversee the whole production due to limited time and also because the order is something that is quite complex, intricate and very detailed, so my mom has to be there.
“Hopefully when people see the pair wearing it, it will inspire the younger generation to continue championing and preserving songket heritage,” she said.
Aside from that, their ‘kursus kahwin’ (wedding course), which is mandatory for any Muslim couple, was sponsored by Renaissance KL and Four Points KLCC who also provided them with all-day meals.
In one of the clips from their kursus kahwin, Syed Saddiq, who is a known debater, was also seen debating with the ustaz during one of their classes.
Syed Saddiq’s trials
The documentary also shed light on Syed Saddiq’s appeal proceedings following his November 2023 High Court conviction on charges of criminal breach of trust, misappropriation of property and money laundering.
The former youth and sports minister was cleared of all charges following a June 2025 Court of Appeal acquittal and its final reaffirmation by the Federal Court in July 2026 — both hearings were attended by Bella, who at the time was still tiptoeing around their relationship status.
Syed Saddiq revealed in the documentary that his ongoing court case at the time was the thing that held him back from going all in with Bella as he didn’t want to burden Bella and her family.
Meanwhile, in the ‘Dugaan Syed Saddiq’ (Syed Saddiq’s Trials) segment, Syed Saddiq’s father, Syed Abdul Rahman said that he was amazed by his youngest son’s composed nature throughout the whole trial.
“Saddiq truly is extraordinary. He kept his cool throughout.
“I was the one who was freaking out but he never showed any signs of nervousness, instead, he was the one who calmed me down,” Syed Abdul Rahman said.
Meanwhile, Bella’s mother, Siti Zarina Astillah shared that Bella would clear up her calendar and cancel her performances and shows so she could attend Syed Saddiq’s court proceedings to show her support.
Although the couple never publicly disclosed their relationship until after their proposal and engagement this year, Syed Saddiq’s mother, Sharifah Mahani Syed Abdul Aziz, said that Syed Saddiq’s final appearance at court in July was the moment she truly accepted Bella into the family.
She said that the tearful hug that she shared with Bella at the time marked the turning point.
Syed Saddiq and Bella Astillah’s relationship
The documentary also offers an intimate look into their bond, forged at a time when both were navigating major life turbulence — Syed Saddiq amid his high-profile legal battles, and Bella following her second divorce from Singaporean singer-actor Aliff Aziz in 2024.
Several of Bella’s close friends and family members were featured in the documentary saying that the mother of two was emotionally broken and Syed Saddiq became her light at the end of the tunnel.
Syed Saddiq’s mother and brother said that since he entered the relationship with Bella, he has become more relaxed and easy-going instead of his usual serious self.
“His romantic side is wonderful, cute and beautiful,” Syed Saddiq’s elder brother Syed Abdullah said.
“Even I, who was watching them as viewers, was smitten (looking at BASS). I always be like aww, this guy is so sweet,” he said.
“Previously, whenever he spoke, it would always be about facts. But he knows how to make jokes now,” Sharifah Mahani said.
The documentary also touches on the pair’s March 28 engagement, particularly Syed Saddiq’s engagement gift trays (hantaran) which came in the form of an engagement ring, an Amanah Saham Nasional Berhad savings account and a Tabung Haji savings account for Bella as well as a couple of National Education Savings Scheme (SSPN) accounts for Bella’s children Ayden Adrean and Ara Adreanna.
Bella said that she initially felt that the hantaran looks like an ‘aid for single mothers’; however, Syed Saddiq defended his decision, saying that the gifts are proof of his long-term commitment to Bella and her children.
“To me, it’s quite straightforward: I want to make sure both children receive the best possible education.
“I also have to remind myself that I’m not just marrying Bella — I’m marrying her two children as well. I wanted to show them that I’m serious and that this is a long-term commitment, not a short-term plan.
“It was my way of binding us together as a family, rather than just linking Bella and me,” he said.
The over 40-minute documentary also showcased more behind the scenes looks at BASS and their relationship including how they introduced themselves to their families.
The next episode of Walimatul Urus Bella Astillah & Syed Saddiq will be the live broadcast of their October 10 wedding ceremony and October 18 dinner reception.
The solemnisation ceremony of Bella Astillah and Syed Saddiq will be broadcast live across Astro Ria (Channel 104), Astro Prima (Channel 105), and Astro Awani (Channel 501), as well as streamed on Sooka and Astro GO.
Coverage will also be available on Astro Malaysia and Astro Gempak’s social media platforms on Saturday, October 10, 2026, beginning at 9am.
