SINGAPORE, Aug 7 — A 22-year-old man has been jailed 17 months for attacking a victim with a chair during a fatal brawl near Kitchener Road here in 2024, becoming the first accused to be dealt with in the case, The Straits Times reported.
Pradave Shashi Kumar pled guilty on August 4 to voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon over the attack on Dhinessh Vasie, 25, who later died from stab wounds sustained during the fight.
The brawl happened at about 4am on September 22, 2024, after Pradave and three others left a club at Golden Mile Tower and went to continue drinking at a pub in Sam Leong Road.
They encountered a group of eight men arguing with three women in a back alley, which led to an altercation.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Jonathan Tan told the court that another man, Muhammad Sajid Saleem, 24, allegedly stabbed Dhinessh in the upper back with a knife after the group chased him and his friends.
Pradave then picked up a chair and struck Dhinessh’s head and chest twice while the victim was slumped over and unable to fight back.
Dhinessh was taken to hospital but died from his injuries.
Pradave was arrested at about 5.15am on the same day.
Sajid has been charged with murder, while Satish Jason Prabhas, 23, and Kirrthik Roshan Prem Ananth, 23, face rioting charges.
The case drew public attention after the fatal brawl broke out near Kitchener Road, with police investigations leading to multiple arrests.
In Singapore, those convicted of voluntarily causing hurt using a dangerous weapon can be jailed for up to seven years, fined, caned, or receive any combination of such punishments.
