SINGAPORE, Nov 11 — A 31-year-old woman accused of murdering her 67-year-old adoptive father at their home in Sengkang will be further held in remand for three weeks for psychiatric observation, a district court ordered today (November 11).
Tan Qiu Yan appeared in court for a second brief court mention today via video-link from the central police division at the Police Cantonment Complex where she has been held since she was charged last Saturday with killing her father Tan Ah Bang.
She is alleged to have committed the murder at a 15th storey unit at Block 190A Rivervale Drive sometime between 8pm on Thursday and 5.25am on Nov 4.
Police officers had responded to a call at around 5.30am on November 4 and found him lying motionless with multiple wounds inside a flat along Rivervale Drive.
He was later pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene and Tan was arrested.
No other details were given on how the alleged murder happened and police investigations are under way.
Tan will return to court on December 2.
Relatives of the deceased had expressed shock and anger over the alleged killing, telling TODAY that the man and his late wife had treated their daughter “like a princess” her whole life after adopting her and caring for her.
They also said that the father-daughter relationship began souring after the mother died two months ago, and the pair fought over ownership of the house and household chores. ― TODAY
