SINGAPORE, Oct 25 — Users of Apple products are advised to update their software due to a bug in some iPhone and iPad models that could result in data corruption, application crashes or even remote hackings.

The Singapore Computer Emergency Response Team (SingCert) said in an advisory today (October 25) that Apple has released a security update to fix a “zero-day vulnerability” in its products, and that the bug is reportedly being “actively exploited”.

The cyber security agency added that the bug affects the following products:

• iPad Pro (all models)

• iPad Air 3rd generation and later

• iPad mini 5th generation and later

SingCert advised users of the affected products to update their software “to the latest versions immediately”.

This can be done on the Apple interface by going to Settings > General > Software Updates > Enable Automatic Updates.

According to technology news website Bleeping Computer, the “zero-day vulnerability” is a bug that was reported to Apple by an anonymous researcher, and has been used on attacks on Apple users since the start of this year.

This advisory by SingCert follows a similar advisory last month urging WhatsApp users to update their application, due to a security flaw that could allow attackers to gain control of a user's mobile application. ― TODAY
