KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 14 — Every actor wishes to step into diverse roles to hone their craft and push themselves out of their comfort zone, aiming to make a name in the entertainment industry.

Malaysian star Nur Amirah Filzah, 32, better known as Mira Filzah, has consistently impressed audiences with her strong performances in television dramas such as her recent works Hikayat Bawang Putih Bawang Merah, Curang Tanpa Niat and Mandul Bukan Pilihan.

Throughout her career, Mira has portrayed a wide range of characters — from mothers, wives, to businesswomen — and has consistently shown her ability to excel in every role.

Malay Mail took the opportunity to ask her about other types of roles she hopes to explore in the future, to which Mira said, “For those who don’t know, I’m very active — I play sports, go to the gym regularly, and I’m a quick learner who picks things up fast.”

“I would really love to do action movies in the future,” she said.

She added that, while there are often certain expectations for women who wear hijab, it would truly be an honour to play a lead heroine in an action film or drama if given the opportunity.

On a side note, Mira has noticed many youngsters coming up in the Malaysian acting industry, and when asked what it takes to really make it in the industry, she said it comes down to discipline and dedication.

She noted that even after many years in acting, she continues to take classes to improve her craft.

For newcomers, she advises taking as many classes as possible, learning new skills, and seeking guidance from seniors or directors when unsure.

She added that aspiring actors should never be shy about asking questions or discussing ideas.

“Get ready to grow,” she concluded.

Mira’s latest project is the Astro Shaw film Akad Yang Hilang, directed by Bahri Uma Bajuri, in which she plays the character Maryam, a woman subjected to public scrutiny and social media bullying after her parents’ marriage is labelled a “nikah fasid” (a marriage solemnised but invalid under Islamic law).

She stars alongside Syarul Ezany, Idan Aedan, Aleza Shadan and Sherie Merlis, and the film is set to be released on January 15 in cinemas nationwide.
