KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 21 — If you’re immersed in the world of cosplay and streaming, there’s a good chance you’ve heard of the charismatic cosplayer and content creator, ‘Rurusama’.
Building her reputation in the world of cosplay and cyberspace, the Singaporean influencer is also a prominent figure in the ACG (anime, comics, and games) community.
While she’s amassed an impressive following through her online platforms, nothing quite compares to meeting her in person — which is exactly what happened to this writer on the first day of Cos-Mic 2025.
Fans flocked to the event in droves for a special meet-and-greet session, waiting eagerly for the chance to meet the influencer face-to-face.
From exchanging hugs, brief chats, photo ops, and sharing smiles, you can be sure that the atmosphere was buzzing with excitement and genuine joy from many in attendance.
If you’re familiar with the influencer, you’d know she has visited Malaysia countless times before Cos-Mic 2025 — especially for ACG events, most recently at the Nijigen Expo 2025 held at Mid Valley in July.
What brings her back to Malaysia?
Malay Mail had the chance to catch up with Rurusama after the recent Cos-Mic session wrapped, where she shared what keeps her coming back to Malaysia.
It’s clear she has a deep love for the community; however, she adds that another reason for returning is the vibrant local culture, especially the food.
This passion for Malaysian cuisine, along with her strong connection to ACG events in the country, continues to draw her back time and again.
“The event is kinda like an excuse to come back to eat more food.
“And I also think Malaysian people are very passionate, so I feel a lot of love over here,” she added.
Rurusama noted that the cosplay culture both in Malaysia and Singapore is quite similar, but highlighted one major difference — the conventions in Malaysia are significantly larger.
“The convention in Malaysia is much bigger, which means I get to see many more people.
“Everybody is much more hype, everybody is really friendly, so it’s really easy for me to do small activities,” she said.
The challenges of cosplay and advice for aspiring cosplayers
The world of cosplay is far from easy as it demands a huge investment of time and money — from sewing elaborate costumes to crafting intricate props.
Beyond the creative challenges, cosplayers often face the physical and mental toll of wearing heavy or complex outfits for hours, especially in crowded convention spaces.
The influencer herself is no stranger to these challenges, and has come to understand what truly drives and defines her in the world of cosplay.
“These days, there are a lot of new professional opportunities coming up, like becoming a professional costume maker,” she says.
“Seeing everything come together really motivates me — to see new creators and the content they’re creating.”
When asked what advice she would give to aspiring cosplayers, Rurusama offered this encouraging message stating, “All you need to do is try your best.
“Watch a lot of videos if you want to improve yourself, and if you want to be better, there’s always room to learn.
“Always create something that’s truly your own, and just do your thing, and it will be great,” she added.
Dream convention achieved and where you might catch her next
No doubt the influencer has travelled to many conventions, beyond Malaysia and Singapore and even her dream convention.
“I recently attended Gamescom in Germany, which was my dream con.”
On which convention she might appear next, she stated, “If I really had to say, I guess I’d love to come back to Cosfest Asia, which would probably be the next one.”
Over 49.3K followers on Twitch, 1.5 million on TikTok, and 1.4 million on Instagram, Rurusama’s fanbase is no doubt growing — and she’s quickly becoming a name that’s buzzing across the region.
