KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 31 — A family outing ended in tragedy when a 33-year-old father and his eight-year-old son drowned off the coast near a campsite in Pengerang, Johor, last night.
Utusan Malaysia reported that the victims were identified as Mohammad Nizam Zainal and his son, Muhammad Zamri Mikhail.
The pair were found unconscious after members of the public pulled them ashore near the campsite in Kampung Punggai before firefighters arrived.
Punggai Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Aldron Dey Judih@Judeh said an emergency call was received at 7.10pm.
Six firefighters were sent to the scene with a Fire Rescue Tender and a four-wheel-drive vehicle.
“Upon the arrival of the operations team at the scene, the two victims were found unconscious after members of the public had brought them ashore before the firefighters arrived.
“The operations team performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on both victims,” he said in a statement, according to Utusan Malaysia.
The boy was then taken to the Bayu Damai Health Clinic in a family car, while his father was transported there in a Punggai fire station Hilux for further treatment.
“However, both victims were pronounced dead by the medical officer on duty upon arrival at the clinic,” Aldron said.
The fire and rescue operation ended at 8.10pm.
