KUALA LUMPUR, April 18 — Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh has finally fulfilled an important promise she made her mother during her acceptance speech at the Oscars.

The Academy Award-winning actress returned yesterday to specifically celebrate her mother’s birthday following her Oscar win last month, which saw her becoming even busier.

Earlier today Yeoh told the press that she returned to Malaysia to celebrate her mother’s birthday.

“I came back this time very specifically because I promised my mum to be here for her birthday.

“Because of the pandemic she has not been able to celebrate her birthday for a few years, so we are going to throw her a big party this time.”

Family, friends and foreign dignitaries gathered at Berjaya Times Square in Kuala Lumpur for the big bash themed “Raging Soul”.

Malay Mail was informed that Datin Janet Yeoh would be singing at the private dinner party.

Berjaya Corporation Berhad founder Tan Sri Vincent Tan were among those present at the red carpet event.

Among the guests were royalties, family members and friends as well as foreign ambassadors.

Tengku Puteri Iman Afzan Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al Mustafa Billah Shah, who is the eldest daughter of Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah was spotted on the red carpet.

Sultan of Johor’s daughter Johor’s Tunku Tun Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah Sultan Ibrahim and her husband Dennis Muhammad Abdullah were also seen arriving at the event.

Other guests included Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil as well as several ambassadors from Australia, Japan, Canada and Sweden.

The mall entrance saw several fans gather to meet Yeoh upon her arrival.

A fan, Leang Shauyin said she made her way to Berjaya Times Square around 4pm just to meet Yeoh.

“I’m quite embarrassed to admit this but before Everything Everywhere All at Once, I only knew Michelle Yeoh from Anlene commercials.

“But then I watched the movie and it blew me away and changed my mind.”

Another fan, Gary Robichaux from the US said he finds Yeoh a very talented actress.

“Congratulations from an American living here in Malaysia.

“I think the people in Malaysia absolutely love her and they’re excited and I just love the energy here.”

Yeoh along with her partner Datuk Seri Jean Todt arrived at 7.50pm and was greeted by Tan and his family before heading to the function hall.

Prior to that, the 60-year-old actress attended the homecoming public meet-and-greet session at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur which saw thousands of fans gathering to meet her.
