KUALA LUMPUR, February 27 — The UK’s top pop stars have reportedly turned down invitations to perform at King Charles III’s coronation celebration on May 6.
According to The Sun, Harry Styles, Sir Elton John, and The Spice Girls have been unable to save the date due to ‘busy touring schedules’, sources close to the organisers revealed.
Styles reportedly failed to get other One Direction band members to join the setlist as they were all solo touring or on ‘much-needed downtime’.
John was supposedly on ‘the top of the list’ but was unable to make a quick UK stopover due to a Berlin concert as part of his European tour.
Meanwhile, The Spice Girls won’t be reuniting anytime soon as Mel B, Melanie C, Geri Horner, Emma Bunton and Victoria Beckham had ‘full calendars’ of business,
Ed Sheeran, Adele, and Robbie Williams were also among the other UK artists allegedly rejecting the royal invitation.
Despite this, his Majesty’s concert will reportedly have performances from Lionel Richie, Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, and Kylie and Danii Minogue.
InterTalent chairman Jonathan Shalit told The Sun that performing at the King’s coronation will be one of the great honours in a musician’s life, encouraging them to take part.
“It’s going to be one of the most brilliant national events ever. It should be an amazing opportunity to unite the nation,” Shalit said.
The upcoming coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey will be broadcast live on BBC.
Prince William and his wife Kate will be among the confirmed members of the British royal family showing up, alongside over 2,000 rumoured guests.
Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex have reportedly been invited but have not confirmed their attendance.
