KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 7 — Local comedian Harith Iskander is mere steps away from possibly being named the Funniest Person in the World

Harith managed yesterday to outdo 15 other comedians in the semi-final round of the competition in Helsinki, Finland to book his place in the grand finals which will be decided by online voting.

The comedian took to his Facebook page to express gratitude to fans who have been vouching for him. “Made it through to the finals! Thank you! Thank you!”

According to The Star Online, Harith will face Alex Calleja (Philippines), Mino Van Nassau (India), David Kilimnick (Israel) and Katerina Vrana (Greece) during the grand finals which will take place in Levi, Finland on December 8 at 8pm (1am local time).

The event is organised by Laugh Factory, a chain of comedy clubs in the US which has seen a number of big names pass through its doors, including Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle as well as Jay Leno.

The winner of the grand prize will win US$100,000 (RM416,000) while the two runner-ups will receive awards of RM41,000 and RM20,000 each. The 20 finalists will also receive US$1000 (RM4,100) each.
