SINGAPORE, Oct 20 — You’ve sung the songs, you’ve seen the movie and now, you can see the musical on stage again. Cameron Mackintosh’s acclaimed new production of Boublil & Schonberg’s legendary musical, “Les Miserables” will make a return to Singapore next May.

Shaun Seow, chief executive officer of MediaCorp said the company was “delighted” to present the much-loved musical, dubbed Les Miz by fans, in Singapore. “We have a growing audience for world-class theatre who will no doubt be thrilled by this new version of ‘Les Miserables,’ one of the most enduring and galvanising pieces of theatre in the world.”

The musical is currently playing in Australia and Mackintosh said he was thrilled to bring the production back to the Lion City. “Next year will mark 20 years since ‘Les Miserables’ was last in Singapore, and I am excited to now be bringing the new production to the Esplanade ... with this incredible cast,” he said.

Having created the new production more than five years ago to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Les Miz, the new version has played on Broadway, and broken box office records across America and in Canada for more than three years. It also has separate tours in Japan, Korea, Spain and Australia where, Mackintosh said, it is currently sweeping all the top awards.

The new production will also feature modern staging, orchestration and reimagined scenery inspired by the paintings of Victor Hugo. Playing the main roles are established actor and musical theatre star, Simon Gleeson (who plays Jean Valjean); Earl Carpenter (who plays Javert, direct from his performance of the role on Broadway); Patrice Tipoki (Fantine); Kerrie Anne Greenland (Eponine); and Emily Langridge as Cosette. — TODAY
